Rafa Benitez appointed as manager of Napoli

Despite the success in Stamford bridge Chelsea former manager Rafa Benitez could notcontinue his career with Chelsea. Benitez signed a two year deal with Serie-A runner up Napoli and will replace Walter Mazzari, who has moved to Inter Milan. “Now that the agreement is confirmed , I can say I am very happy and very satisfied for having committed to such a great club with an illustrous heritage like Napoli”, he said. “I understand the history of the city and how the club forms the fundamental part of the culture and tradition of Naples”.

The Spaniard struggled to win over a section of Chelsea supporters during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge. As he was appointed as an interim manager right after the sacking of Roberto Di-Matteo he was hopeless to continue at Stamford Bridge. Benitez led the blues to finish in the third place in the premier league and win the Europa League title.

“I must confess that I am extremely excited because I can share my passion for football with the fans of Napoli; it is proven that they are very very special”, he said at press conference. “I look forward to experiencing each and every one of the fans of Napoli and their strong support for this project that we will certainly begin”.

Benitez also confirmed that fitness coach Francisco de Miguel Moreno and goalkeeping coach Vicente Javier Valero Berchili, who were both parts of his backroom team at Liverpool, Inter Milan and Chelsea will join him. This appointment has ended the speculation made over his move to Real Madrid and Stoke City.
